Asbestos is a naturally occurring product that has had extensive use over the years, but unfortunately it can be very detrimental to people’s health. When it was used in large amounts it was though that it was safe and therefore used extensively. Unfortunately it is still around to day in fairly large quantities because of this widespread usage.

Many people will luckily not come into contact with the substance over the course of their life, but there are a few cases where it can be found and unfortunately some of these are around the home.

If you live in a house that was built before the mid 80’s then the chances are that the building will contain some asbestos products. If you are only just buying the property it is a good idea to find out if there has already been some removal work done on the dangerous material. If it hasn’t and you find some, it is best to cover it away again and get someone to deal with the dangerous asbestos that is fully trained and certified.

It should not happen now, but in case you come into contact with the material whilst at work, then you may have a chance to put in an asbestosis claim. There are many people who have claimed against previous employers who have subjected employees to asbestos exposure. This is very important to the sufferers of asbestos related diseases because they are often fatal or incredibly debilitating, reducing people’s standards of living.

Asbestosis and mesothelioma are fairly common afflictions after asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is always fatal because it is incredibly hard to treat, often being quite advanced once diagnosed. It is a cancer of the lining of the lungs or other organs in the chest cavity, which is incredibly hard to get to and even pin down where the outbreak has started from.

If you know you have been exposed to asbestos throughout your life, this should be said to your doctors, so that they can stay alert and be on the lookout for related diseases.

The term ‘health education’ means to educate someone concerning health and health related matters. Health education is not all about physical health. It can relate to economical health, social health and sometimes emotional health or spiritual health. The World Health Organization (WHO) refers to health education as any kind of learning that is related to health. This will include improving ones knowledge and developing the skill related to individual or community health.

It is true to say that health education begins with the people and is for the people. Any education they receive should mainly motivate them to try and improve their living condition and expand and develop their knowledge about the responsibility as a member of society to make society per se more health conscious.

With this awareness the health educators also organize educational programmes to help control diseases which affect society plus the habits and attitudes which can infect people. For example, washing your hands both before and after mealtimes utilising proper sanitation systems or the heath care of pregnant woman in rural and poor families.

Health education nutrition is mostly a very important and effective tool in developing countries. The main cause is that it not only teaches prevention and improves the basic health but it will also help to reshape the habits of the community.
